    The Value of Hair

Last updated 2 days 1 hour ago

When hair begins to thin or recede, it may become a serious concern. Continue reading to find more information about hair loss and the value of hair in today’s society.

    Sign of Youth

A full head of hair is often considered a sign of youth for both men and women. Unfortunately, hair loss can make a person appear older than he or she truly is. This not only interferes with self-confidence and overall self-image, but can also have an effect on that person’s lifestyle. For example, hair loss may remove an individual from more youthful social circles or scenes, forcing him or her to withdraw from certain social interactions. In addition, hair loss may interfere with professional relationships and a person’s ability to succeed in today’s competitive workforce.

    Sign of Beauty

In addition to being associated with youthfulness, a full head of healthy hair is also connected to beauty. Women, in particular, may associate their luscious locks with attractiveness. Losing one’s hair can reduce self-esteem and make a person feel suddenly unattractive. This can have a significant impact on an individual’s personal relationships.

If hair loss is interfering with your lifestyle, it may be time to contact a hair restoration clinic to determine which treatment option is best suited to your needs. At the Hair Restoration Institute of Minnesota, our physicians provide high-quality treatment services including prevention programs, medical hair replacement, and non-invasive hair restoration methods. What You Can Do to Help Nourish Your Hair before It's Too Late

    Last updated 9 days ago

Hair loss is a common problem among men and women alike. Studies by the American Hair Loss Association show that approximately two-thirds of men will experience some degree of hair loss by age 35, while women make up approximately 40 percent of hair loss sufferers. While hair loss clinics provide treatment options for individuals with thinning or balding hair, consider these actions that you can take to help nourish your hair and prevent hair loss.

    Moisturize Your Hair

Using conditioner is a great way to strengthen your existing hair follicles. It is important to consider which type of conditioner is best for your hair. For example, normal hair can be treated with a light conditioner, while dry or over-processed hair may require a cream conditioner.

    Avoid Overusing Heat

Over-processing through the use of blow-dryers, straighteners, and curling irons can severely damage your hair. Avoid exposing your hair to these products for more than a few seconds at a time.  Longer exposure to heated products can burn the hair and increase the risk of irreversible damage. You may also consider applying a heat protectant to your hair prior to styling.

    Maintain a Healthy Diet

Proper nutrition from a balanced diet can help improve the condition of your hair. Help nourish your hair by incorporating a number of healthy foods into your diet such as salmon, beans, dark green vegetables, nuts, whole grains, poultry, eggs, carrots, and low-fat dairy products.

If altering your lifestyle habits is not enough, it may be time to consider hair loss therapy. What to Expect From Hair Extensions

    Last updated 29 days ago

For anyone who wants thicker or longer hair, hair extensions can offer the ideal hair replacement solution. Extensions come in a variety of colors and textures, and they are made to look and feel natural. However, you’ll need to use care when washing, brushing, and styling your extensions.

    Washing Hair Extensions

Right after the hair extensions are braided into the roots, they shouldn’t be washed for at least 48 hours. After a few days, detangle your hair before wetting the extensions. Tugging on the extensions while the hair is wet could loosen the extensions. Once the extensions are wet, apply shampoo and conditioner from the mid-length to the ends of the extensions. Avoid scrubbing or pulling on the roots where the extensions are connected.

    Drying Hair Extensions

Immediately after the shower, you’ll need to dry the hair’s roots so as to prevent tangling and separation between the natural hair and extension. Wet hair is heavier than dry hair, so begin blow-drying the roots right away. Use a mild heat on the extensions, and don’t allow the hair extensions to become tangled. If you shower at night, avoid sleeping on your extensions, as this could lead to tangling.

    Brushing Hair Extensions

To brush the extensions, you’ll need a looper brush. This brush is specifically designed to be sensitive on hair extensions, and therefore, it should be the only brush you use. Stylists recommend lightly brushing the hair and tying up the strands with a hair tie before bed to prevent tangling during the night. You’ll also want to brush your hair several times throughout the day to maintain a soft, smooth look.

    Styling Hair Extensions

When it comes to styling the hair extensions, it is safe to use heat tools such as curling irons and straighteners. However, keep the heat away from the roots to avoid bond breakdown.
